Frequently Asked Questions about Orthotics

We have found that many of our clients have questions or concerns about orthotics in general, or our office in particular, so we have created this page as a convenient source for answers. The following are the questions that we hear most often, along with the answers. If you have a question that is not addressed here, we’d love to hear it. Simply contact our office for answers.

Do I need a referral?
Yes, you do require a doctor’s referral. It can be from a general practitioner. For example, your family doctor can give you a referral for orthotics – it doesn’t have to come from a specialist.

Are services covered through OHIP?
Most private medical plans do cover orthopedic footwear. Orthotics and orthopedic footwear can also be covered by WSIB, NIHB and Veteran’s Affairs.

Do you make the orthotics onsite or are the casts sent out to be fabricated elsewhere?
At Boreal, orthotics creation is completed on premises by qualified technicians with years of experience. This results in a quick, convenient and fast experience for you.

Do I need an appointment?
Please call to book an appointment for an assessment, but feel free to visit our storefront in person at any time to get more information and to browse the selection of footwear we have available.

Is there a cost for my first assessment?
We offer free assessments.

How long does an assessment usually take and what do I need to bring?
Your first assessment will take approximately one hour. Bring your regular footwear to the assessment and your doctor’s referral.

Is there a warranty offered for my orthotic shoes?
Yes! At Boreal we offer a 1-year adjustment warranty on foot orthotics. Any and all adjustments that need to be done to your insoles will be completed at no additional fee to you!
